On the latest episode of Broken Skull Sessions, Stone Cold Steve Austin sat down with ‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes. While discussing the wrestling life of Cody Rhodes, Austin vividly recalled watching wrestling on television with his mother.
Stone Cold said, “As a kid growing up in South Texas, I was changing channels on TV. I came across Houston Wrestling; your dad was passed to the territory. He was bleeding like a stuck pig, and I couldn’t believe it. There was a rope banister around the ring, and the smoky crowd and the security guard had a sidearm on his hip.”
Even after three decades, The Texas Rattlesnake remembers himself as a child watching the late WWE legend Dusty Rhodes. Stone Cold watched Houston Wrestling on television, and Dusty Rhodes was bleeding.

“Dusty [Rhodes] was just getting shellacked, and I said, ‘God damn momma, the security guard’s got a gun; why didn’t he help Dusty?’ That’s the picture that it painted [for me]. So I forever fell in love with wrestling, and your dad was a big inspiration. One of the number reasons I got into the business,” Austin added.

When the cops didn’t help The American Dream, Steve Austin asked his mother why they did not help the late Dusty Rhodes. However, The Texas Rattlesnake did not understand as a kid that it was a staged fight, and Rhodes bleeding was a part of professional wrestling.
