During a recent interview on the “Such Good Shoot” podcast, Slater revealed how Cena saved his job. Slater said,
“You can even see in that one part with the ropes down,” Slater said. “I grabbed the rope and I go to choke Cena with it. And he literally takes it off. He’s like, ‘No, no, no, no choke.’ You know that type deal. ‘Alright,’ and you see me just drop it off.”
Apparently, Heath basically proposed to choke Cena with part of the ring rope. Cena, being the experienced wrestler, immediately instructed him to not do the spot. This proved to be in Slater’s favor and kept him from being fired from WWE.
Unfortunately, Daniel Bryan wasn’t so lucky when he choked Justin Roberts with a tie. WWE fired Bryan following the incident, only to rehire him sometime later. The incident happened on June 7, 2010, when The Nexus attacked Cena on RAW.
“I’ll watch it back and I’ll be like, ‘Well, he saved my a** there,’” Slater added. “I could’ve been in trouble too, you know, who knows? But he literally stopped, he was like, ‘No, no, no, no choke.’ But we beat the s*** out of Cena. We laid everything in that night to where he just was like, ‘Damn, boys,’ you know?”

Heath Slater was one of the most well-liked wrestlers in WWE after he broke off from The Nexus stable. His ability in the ring, capped with an impeccable promo ability, made him an asset to WWE.
Slater flourished in every opportunity that WWE presented him with. Heath had a lengthy run in WWE, initially debuting on the first season of NXT. He would go on to join forces with two future champions in Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal as 3MB.
His last gimmick in WWE was the ‘I’ve Got Kids!’ schtick. The fans loved watching him, but unfortunately, he was let go. He is currently on IMPACT wrestling.
