John Cena is one of the most successful wrestlers in WWE. But the road to stardom has had its fair share of obstacles through it as well. Cena was the poster boy of WWE during the Ruthless Aggression Era. But he did not have a great time following his debut in WWE. Cena was on his way to losing his job till something special happened to him spontaneously.
After Cena failed to impress the WWE universe with his babyface gimmick during the early part of his career, Vince McMahon was even ready to fire him. But something special happened. You can call it luck as well.

While Cena was traveling in a bus with his fellow WWE superstars during a European tour, he started to rap. Stephanie McMahon, who was also present inside the bus, was so impressed that WWE gave him a rapper gimmick ‘Doctor of Thuganomics’.
Since then, Cena did not have to look back as he became very popular among the WWE universe and rose to stardom. But did Cena copy his rapper gimmick from someone else? Recently, former WWE superstar, Wolfie D, accused John Cena of copying his rapper gimmick.

What does Wolfie D think about John Cena and his ‘Doctor of Thuganomics’ gimmick?
While speaking to Monte & The Pharaoh on the LI#1 Pro Wrestling Podcast, Wolfie D claimed John Cena’s rapper gimmick was a “complete rip-off” of his rapper character.
Wolfie D is best known for his tag team with J.C. Ice. They were together known as PG-13. But soon after joining the Nation of Domination, they wrestled. In fact, they used to rap together prior to the matches of the Nation of Domination.

During the interview, Wolfie D said (h/t: Sportskeeda Wrestling), “I agree with that [John Cena being WWE’s last truly great superstar]. I just have a personal bias to it because that guy right there standing behind you with the shorts and the tennis shoes and all that, I was the first guy to do that gimmick. I think that John Cena is a complete rip-off of PG-13, Wolfie D, whatever you wanna say.”

Well, irrespective of what Wolfie D thinks, the WWE universe surely enjoyed the former WWE champion’s rapper gimmick. In fact, Cena gave the fans a glimpse of the past by bringing back his ‘Doctor of Thuganomics’ gimmick at WrestleMania 35.
