In a recent edition of their newsletter, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter revealed, “Ricochet is in concussion protocol as it’s believed that he suffered a concussion earlier in the match from a hurricanrana spot when his head bounced off the mat this week on RAW.” The newsletter also updated, “He had no memory of anything that happened in much of the match, but other than that, was said to be feeling fine.

Since the star is currently under concussion protocol, there is no confirmation when he will be able to return to the ring.

The match to crown the next challenger for the Intercontinental title was won by The Miz, but earlier plans had called for a controversial finish with Ivar pinning Ricochet as well. However, during the planned spot he was kicked out of the move by Ivar, and now we have an explanation as to why.

Reports from the same source gave us a clearer picture of how the match was supposed to be if it weren’t botched. Let’s take a quick peek into what the situation would’ve been like had Ricochet not endured the severe injury on his head.

Ricochet’s injury proved problematic for an otherwise clean pin

The result of the Fatal Four Way match was already set to come out in The Miz’s favor. However, the way the pinfall sequence played out, left the viewers and even in-ring talents confused. According to the same source by Dave Meltzer, the creative department’s original plan was for Ricochet to also get pinned. However, things took a turn because of his injury.

Since the injured wrestler was already ‘messed up’, he didn’t pay attention to the sequence that was going on in the ring. This led to the botch where Ricochet was also getting pinned by Ivar while The Miz was pinning Bronson Reed and the injured wrestler kicked out.

Although the referee played off the mishap like a professional, it was still noticeable to viewers paying attention.
