WWW often involves themes of jealousy, hatred, and vengeance. Sometimes the in-ring battle proves to be real. While the wrestlers usually limit their fight within the boundary of the storyline, sometimes it goes beyond that.
The wrestling promotion was once on the verge of losing its usual glory with the release of most of its golden-era stars. It was the time when Ahmed Johnson came to the scene with the hope that he could be the face of the new era of wrestling. While many considered him a failure, it’s safe to say the former Intercontinental champion has been pretty remarkable during his short run with the company.
Johnson teamed up with Shawn Michaels on the July 22, 1996, episode of Raw, for competing against The Smoking Gunns for the WWE Tag Team Championship title. The latter part of the event saw Ron Simmons appearing and hitting Johnson with a brutal kick. It resulted in Johnson giving up on his WWE Championship title dream as he was forced away from the ring for nearly 5 months due to a horror kidney injury.

Ahmed Johnson had a shocking allegation against Ron Simmons
Years have passed, but it seems like the mental injury is still prominent in Ahmed Johnson’s memory. He vented his grudges against Simmons while speaking on the ‘Pounding The Meat podcast’. Detailing why he holds Simmons responsible for deliberately injuring him, The Nubian Terror noted, ‘Yeah, I think he did [deliberately cause injury]. I think he was also jealous and upset because here he was, the first black champion in WCW, and then here I was becoming the first Intercontinental black champion in WWF [WWE]. I think there was some jealousy there.’
Describing how the whole incident took a toll on his flourishing career back then, the star continued, “The recovery set me back a little way, man. It messed my shot up at the world title with Shawn, which I heard I was gonna get the belt then. It really set me back, man. He really threw my career off track when he did that.”
