On Monday Night Raw this week, WWE confirmed a prestige match for the tag-team championship between The Judgment Day and Cody Rhodes with Jey Uso. The match will take place at Fastlane on October 7th at Gainbridge Fieldhouse and will also feature the return of John Cena to Fastlane. Cena will team up with LA Knight to face The Bloodline.

Rhodes and Cena are returning to the Fastlane PLE after 5 years or more. While both are top stars on the roster, their showings at Fastlane are not the best. It might be a great opportunity for them to change their fortunes.

Both superstars are yet to win a match at Fastlane while Cena has not won any match at any WWE PLE since October 2018 (as per Cagematch.net). So, it will be an opportunity for Cena and Rhodes to win their first encounter at Fastlane.

WWE will try to hit many birds with just two stones. While Cena’s win will help elevate LA Knight’s push, Rhodes’ win will help escalate the tension within The Judgment Day faction. It will also help push Main Event Jey Uso to stardom by becoming WWE Undisputed tag team champion.

A win for John Cena will also ensure that LA Knight’s journey towards Roman Reigns becomes more reasonable. On the other hand, a tag-team title will bring Rhodes to the title picture and help keep Jey Uso busy before his impending match against Jimmy Uso. But before their matches at Fastlane, let’s look at the history of Cena and Rhodes at Fastlane.

John Cena and Cody Rhodes’ poor run of form at the Fastlane PLE

John Cena has featured in two matches at Fastlane PPV to date. His first match was at Fastlane 2015 at FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee. He faced Rusev for the US title in the show’s third match. Cena lost the match after Rusev delivered a low blow before locking in The Accolade which resulted in the Hollywood star passing out.

In the same PLE, Rhodes featured as Stardust to face his brother Goldust in a singles match. Rhodes lost the match through a surprise roll-up. It is the only match he has featured in at Fastlane before leaving WWE in 2016.

Cena featured in another match at Fastlane 2018, where he lost. It was a six-man match for the WWE Championship that featured AJ Styles, Baron Corbin, Dolph-Ziggler, Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn. AJ Styles won the match after delivering a phenomenal forearm to Kevin Owens.
