After a series of box-office fails in 2022 and 2023, Dwayne Johnson now looks forward to undergoing a major transformation. Johnson’s latest partnership with acclaimed studio A24 came as a shocker for many. A24 is known for venturing into a different genre of films that Johnson has never ventured into. However, both the stalwarts broke this barrier and are collaborating for an upcoming Michael Kerr biopic.
Renowned MMA fighter Michael Kerr has his biopic coming up named, ‘The Smashing Machine’, with Johnson starring as the fighter. Oppenheimer actor and filmmaker Benny Safdie will direct the film. However, this sudden genre change also came alongside a mentality change.

The 50-year-old’s series of box-office fails with Black Adam, and Fast X might have brought up the idea of venturing into a different sect of films. His Michael Kerr biopic with Safdie and A24 might be something fans have never witnessed from Johnson.
During his latest interview with Variety, Johnson explained how he has undergone a major change. He said, “I want to make films that matter, that explore humanity, struggle & pain. I’m at this point where I want more. I don’t mean I want more box office. I mean I want more humanity.”
A superstar, Johnson however has never been known for his choice of quality films. Even during his latest WWE return, he engaged in self-deprecating humor and roasted his 2017 comedy, ‘Baywatch’. The Rock might now be thinking of making quality films instead of chasing commercial flicks.

It can be deduced that the return hinted towards a comeback match possibly at Elimination Chamber against Roman Reigns, and had nothing to do with his upcoming A24 film.
