The new Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling will finally come to theaters on July 21st, 2023. John Cena is also in the film as he dons the role of a merman Ken. Fans are quite excited to see their favorite star in that role. However, according to the reports, fans from Vietnam and the Philippines won’t be able to do so because of the ban.
According to the state media, the main reason behind this ban is because of the scene that shows a geographic implication the country is fighting for. The map used in the movie shows the disputed Chinese territorial claims (u-shaped nine-dash line) in the South China Sea. The area that China is claiming consists of approximately 22% of Vietnam’s landmass.
Even though China’s claim is not valid under international law, still it didn’t stop claiming the coastlines of Vietnam, the Philippines, Taiwan, Brunie, and Malaysia.
And when the countries saw the makers using the map with the “nine-dash line”, they decided to implement this drastic step. However, the Philippines is still discussing it. Nevertheless, what is the nature of Cena’s role in the upcoming movie?
