Ones who follow Dwayne Johnson would know of his rollercoaster journey, from having only $7 in his wallet to becoming an $800 million worth Hollywood actor. Johnson had to turn a deaf ear to several people throughout this journey who demanded he changes for the better.
The Rock wasn’t an actor from the start as he was a well-known pro wrestler. This transition from becoming the celebrated face of wrestling to establishing himself in Hollywood was a tough nut to crack. It hasn’t been a smooth ride, especially because of how the people around him instructed him initially.

Dwayne Johnson fired his team at the start of his Hollywood career
Speaking on The Pivot podcast, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson revealed the unspoken roles of some popular names in the Hollywood industry. This came in front when one of the hosts asked The Rock to mention his biggest pivot in life.
In order to answer it, Johnson revisited the time when he transitioned from wrestling to Hollywood. From the very start, he was clear that he did not wish to be boxed in one genre but wanted to try his hands on everything. But in achieving all this, he didn’t want to lose himself.

He said, “I was told at that time, in order for this to happen, here’s the biggest stars in the world, Will Smith, George Clooney, Johnny Depp, you look nothing like them, you got to stop talking about wrestling, stop calling yourself The Rock, you’re too big, go on a diet, get out of the gym.”
It might appear weird now, but the media and his detractors had criticized Johnson for all those things he currently excels at. But a few years later, the legend understood that “I gotta be me.”
And thus, he “Fired everybody, hired a brand new team, said here’s what I believe is the North Star and here’s how I believe it’s going to get there and if at least I fail then I fail being myself.”
This, as per The Rock, was one decision that he had to take and the impact of it is quite evidently visible now. However, there’s one more pivot he talked about in the podcast.
The Rock shares the biggest pivot of his life
While speaking about his pivots, Johnson mentioned how his mindset changed from becoming more successful. At first, he was like, “I’m gonna take care of my family but I’m getting mine and I’m going to go after mine and I’m not worried about anybody else”
However, years later, when he shifted to Hollywood and expanded his career, he came to a realization. And it was, “The most important thing now is just to take care of people.”
