Finn Balor has a tryst with destiny this week on SmackDown. Balor will face off against Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship. However, Balor did not want to feud with the ‘Tribal Chief.’ Instead, he wanted to get his hands on the ‘Ring General’ WALTER.

In an interview with “BT Sport” Balor talked about how he wanted to go over to NXT UK. But because of the pandemic, those plans came to a screeching halt.

Balor said, “The surprise appearance at NXT UK about two years ago was something that I was really excited about. It wasn’t going to be a one-off. It was going to be a regular thing. We were building towards a match with WALTER. It got taken away from us by the pandemic.”

It’s something I’m still super invested in. Believe it or not, before I return to SmackDown, I could feel the run at NXT coming to an end and I’d kind of exhausted all the resources there too,he continued.

He added, “The guys that I could wrestle against and that I actually pitched the idea of moving to NXT UK, and obviously him, that might’ve been a little bit of a bold move on maybe a bold pitch.”

“I felt like not only challenge myself against guys like Ilja, WALTER, A-Kid, Jordan [Devlin], but help the brand the same way I tried to help NXT. But, the office had a different opinion on that. They wanted me on SmackDown.”

What a spectacle it would have been to see Finn Balor back in NXT UK. But we don’t think the fans would complain too much, as he is a main roster wrestler now for WWE.

Finn Balor praises NXT UK

For Balor, seeing that brand grow is incredible. Some of the UK guys are some of the best in the world on that. Balor feels the wrestling there is more definitely a raw or mat-wrestling based. Some guys are really talented and have a huge team. So, Balor feels good to see the ground grow at the seat of breath and grow.

Hopefully, WWE will get the funds back in the UK soon too. Having people will get them back in places like Blackpool, or Wembley, etc. What an incredible sight it will be for WWE to be back in the UK.

For now, the Prince has his sights set on Roman Reigns Universal Championship. Will he win it or not? That we will find out this week on SmackDown.
