Drew McIntyre has been on a roll since his return to the WWE. After the unfortunate release from the company on 12 June 2014, he returned on 1 April 2017 to NXT. The sword that McIntyre has been carrying isn’t just there to make him look good. Albeit it does add to the Warrior gimmick, there is a bit of history and personal significance to it. Starting off with the name of the sword, Angela.

The sword is named after McIntyre’s mother. The Scotsman had a very close relationship with his mother, who passed away on November 3, 2012. She suffered from Cerebellar Ataxia and passed away at the tender age of 51. The idea of naming the sword after her came from Vince McMahon and not him. McIntyre loved it and felt that every time he made his way to the ring, his mother accompanied him.

Many WWE fans have asked if the sword is real or a prop. The answer is that it is real. According to the research done by Firstsportz, the sword is 1,500 years old. The Scottish History Museum in Inverness lent it to WWE. This is where the backstory of the sword takes an interesting turn. It’s something that even McIntyre has mentioned in the WWE.

The sword emerges as the perfect prop for McIntyre after his recent exploits as he aims to annihilate his foes during an upcoming PLE.

McIntyre’s heel turn and WWE Survivor Series: WarGames

McIntyre underwent a heel turn ahead of the WWE Survivor Series: WarGames PLE. While fans speculated about it for months, no one expected him to ally with The Judgment Day. After joining forces and becoming the fifth member of their team for the WarGames match, fans were even more excited. The Scotsman bore ill feelings towards the faces of the company for not having his back and he aims to fulfill a vendetta against two particular opponents.

After being unable to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Crown Jewel from Seth Rollins, the two are set to face off again at WarGames. However, this time’s target is Jey Uso.
