Marvel is reaping profits from yet another blockbuster release in the form of Deadpool and his returning, regenerating friend. Thanks to the classic wall-breaking Deadpool humor, there were several intentional easter eggs in the movie that fans spotted in between, but it seems like WWE fans were in their own world while watching the movie.
A still from the movie shows one of the moments when Ryan Reynolds’ character is trying to be benevolent to different Wolverine variants. One of them has a unique black and red suit that reminds a WWE fan of Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa.
What is the truth behind the Tama Tonga reference in Deadpool 3?

The latest entry into the MCU franchise deals with the multiverse, which has been a recurring theme in this entire phase. In the movie, Deadpool meets up with several Wolverine variants, most of whom are played by Hugh Jackman himself. There is this one scene in particular where Jackman is standing in the alley, acting hostile to Wade Wilson. He is wearing a red and black suit.
This is one of the comic-accurate suits that Marvel has been trying to pull off as of late. The variant appears to be James Howlett (Earth-295), who has been part of several storylines both as a major and minor character. A WWE fan connected this suit to those of Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa.
The black and red suit that the Tongan brothers are popular for looks a bit similar to Howlett’s comic-accurate look. It is highly likely that this wasn’t any reference to The Bloodline’s ongoing terror on SmackDown.

It looks like the rogue Bloodline’s fear tactics are working, as fans can’t seem to get them out of their heads. But this isn’t the first time that the viewers have cross-referenced WWE and comic characters.
A WWE legend wore a Batman-inspired mask
Rey Mysterio is popular for sticking to Kayfabe in public and wearing his mask to always stay in character. To not bore the audience with plain masks, the former United States champion tries on new ones to keep things interesting. On a SmackDown episode in October 2023, Mysterio wore a black mask to the arena to deliver a promo. Although black is a classy color in itself, comic fans also associate it with the caped crusader. To add to the suspicion, it also had bigger and more pointy ears, pointing to the ceiling. This was sure to make people think of Batman when looking at Rey Mysterio.

Although the luchador didn’t officially acknowledge that Batman was the inspiration behind the mask when he got it for himself, he may have thought of the same thing when putting it on. After all, it is only normal for a man to feel like Gotham’s sole protector when putting on such a cool mask at night. While this was a WWE star referencing a comic book character, the Wolverine spot is completely the opposite of it. Since wardrobe designers tend to make some changes to the original suits, could Tama Tonga or Tonga Loa’s suit have been on their minds?
