Vince McMahon has been eying India as the next major market for WWE. They toured India four times so far, i.e. 1996, 2003, 2016, and 2017, and many top-level stars have wrestled on the sub-continent’s soil.
A Twitter page, 90s WWE, recently shared a throwback picture of WWE’s tour to India in February 1996. The picture is of Triple H and Owen Hart on the streets of Delhi, doing a local tour and interacting with the locals.

Owen Hart is checking some pictures on his camera that he clicked, while Hunter is posing for a photo beside a cow. Also, this was the first major WWE House Show and tour that happened in India.

However, all the matches of 1996 tour happened in Mumbai, and the WWE roster visited Delhi for a while as well. The superstars also went to one of the 7 wonders of the world, The Taj Mahal. This tour created a new market which expanded over the years for WWE and saw many Indian talents wrestling in the company.

I was in school, i guess 1995, they had come to mumbai. Had gone to see the match along with few cousins. Bret hart, yokozuna, randy savage, diesel, kamala etc had also come to India. Great memory.

What were the main event matches when the company toured in India?
WWE has toured four times to the Indian soil to host Live House Show event. The locations for the events for all those years were mainly Delhi or Mumbai and once Bangalore. The 1996 tour’s main event was Bret Hart vs Tatanka for the WWE Championship in Mumbai.
The 2002 WWE’s tour to India was the longest one. It was a three-day tour that had shows in a few of the major cities of India such as Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. The main event was Kane vs. Test in New Delhi, Chris Jericho & Christian vs. Rob Van Dam & Jeff Hardy at Mumbai and Kane vs. Chris Jericho in Bangalore.

The 2016 show was two-day event which saw Roman Reigns main eventing both nights. He faced Big Show on day one and Rusev on Day 2. However, 2017 event was for one day but a Supershow, that saw Triple H vs Jinder Mahal in the main event.
