WWE’s Extreme Rules had some pretty crazy moments, and that’s putting it lightly. The event exceeded all expectations and each match had its own unique moment to remember it by. However, shadowed by all the bizarre moments is one that should be focused on much more.

MVP and Bobby Lashley had recently unveiled a new and improved United States Championship that he intended on wearing after beating Apollo Crews. This belt has received criticism all around the WWE Universe.
The fight was ready to take place at Extreme Rules. However, it was soon announced that Apollo Crews would not be able to compete because he didn’t pass his medical test.
Medical tests are conducted before every match to judge if a Superstar is fit and well to compete. Commentator Michael Cole mentioned that Apollo Crews did not clear the test as it was discovered that he had a small muscle injury on his arm.
This meant that the match would be forfeited. However, MVP and Lashley still walked out for a segment, and MVP crowned himself Champion by default since the defending Champion failed to show up.
MVP has crowned himself as the United States Champion
There isn’t a clear statement given by WWE yet, but many speculate that Crews did not past the COVID 19 test that all WWE employees are expected to take before entering the premises.
This would explain the frantic cover-up through muscle injury. Once again, this is pure speculation and nothing has been confirmed. We are eager to hear the truth behind Crews’ absence.
In the meantime, we are also eager to see how WWE plans on continuing this high profile storyline with one side of it completely missing. MVP and Lashley now cannot do anything but wait.
WWE will probably keep the United States Championship with MVP now that Crews may well be out of the picture for a while.
There were two title usurpations at Extreme Rules. One was of Sasha Banks‘ wrongfully winning the RAW Women’s Championship from Asuka, and the other was MVP’s self-crowning. Out of the two, Banks’ actions will not go unanswered.

However, there is a huge possibility that MVP will continue his reign as the new United States Champion. This will go on until Apollo Crews returns. They may then have a major Undisputed Champion fight for title unification! WWE may also find a decent storyline for Bobby Lashley, who has been criminally underutilized so far.
WWE will most likely work something out, and we will find out the fate of the storyline tomorrow on RAW.
