In 2015, Sasha Banks solidified her standing as a heel by ripping the headband off of a Bayley fan during her fight with The Role Model. Now, the Bayley fan girl, aka Izzy Moreno, has elaborated on the incident, in an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports. Speaking on being in close proximity to the two WWE stars, Moreno cleared the air regarding the legitimacy of the moment and her rise to fame since.

When asked about the authenticity of the moment, she called it ‘super organic’.

While explaining the scenes behind the iconic moment in her young career, she stated, “Honestly, a lot of people think it was, I was this plant and, you know, I was hired and, honestly, it was super organic. I started to attend NXT shows. And I remember this was kind of like my first interaction with Bayley.”

Izzy Moreno was referring to the match between Sasha Banks and the then NXT Champion Bayley at NXT Takeover: Respect PLE in 2015. During the rematch of their previous title match, Sasha Banks flicked and threw around Bayley’s trademark headband from Moreno’s head, who was standing in the front row. After the match, Bayley took a picture with Moreno.

Moreno further defined the moment by stating how Bayley took the picture and posted it on Twitter (now known as X). After the post by former WWE Champion Bayley, she instantly became popular as people around her started recognizing her.

While recalling the important moment in her life, she stated how she was excited when Bayley came out. She further explained how Bayley was a lot different from other WWE Divas at the time. Bayley is one of the Four Horsewomen from NXT and probably the last from the group to achieve success on the main roster. But she had a unique gimmick and character design that distinguished her from the rest.

Even as an 8-year-old, Moreno said she could feel something different about Bayley who used to portray a happy and cheerful baby face back in 2015. Moreno described that the bubbly character of Bayley helped resonate with her as Moreno was also known as a happy and super exciting kid during her school days. However, Bayley has long ditched the gimmick now and is one of the best heels in the women’s division.

Regardless, Bayley gave Moreno her headband during her entrance in an epic match against Sasha Banks at NXT.

Izzy Moreno adopts the persona of Bayley to become her super fan

The moment she received Bayley’s headband was the moment Moreno got the craze for Bayley’s merchandise. This craze further developed into a motivation for her current gimmick. Moreno said, “So, I think that she gave me her headband. And then after I was like, I need Bayley merchandise. So it started off with me, making my own merch. I’ve made, like, I got these custom shirts. That says, ‘Bayley’s biggest fan’. It’s like a picture of her.”

Currently, Izzy Moreno is wrestling at AEW World Champion Thunder Rosa’s Mission Pro-Wrestling, an all-women promotion. She made her debut against Jazmin Allure in August as a 16-year-old. She also had a brief encounter with Sasha Banks on X a few weeks ago, hinting at a potential future rivalry.
