John Cena, a legendary figure in WWE, is recognized as one of the most accomplished individuals in professional wrestling. Following a highly successful career in the industry, Cena ventured into Hollywood for new opportunities.

Throughout his acting journey, Cena has established himself as a dependable and talented actor, with an impressive filmography. The 45-year-old has appeared in many successful movies, including notable roles in the DCEU and the Fast & Furious series. However, recently Cena dropped major good news for his fans, and all action-movie lovers all over the world.

On May 30th, 2023, fans witnessed something that they thought they would never see in their lifetime. For the past several years, there were rumors floating about John Cena starring alongside action-movie star Jackie Chan in a movie.

But when the trailer for ‘Hidden Strike’ dropped, fans witnessed Cena and Chan in a never-before collaboration. Although the pairing seemed oddly similar to Chan’s previous Rush-hour franchise, it still gave fresh vibes to the fans.

WWE Superstar John Cena Takes on action comedy in ‘Hidden Strike’

For the past several years, John Cena has been an active part of Hollywood, starring in several films, although most of them were related to the action genre. However, after his stint with Chan in ‘Hidden Strike’, Cena would be entering the action-comedy scene, which was once dominated by Jackie Chan himself.

Chan has been a part of several Hollywood projects such as The Rush Hour franchise, Spy Next Door, and Rumble in the Bronx. However, his collaboration with John Cena came as something which fans never expected to see any time soon.

John Cena spent a few years in China to train with Jackie Chan while shooting for ‘Hidden Strike’. However, during this period he also fell into a period of depression and mental struggle related to weight and muscle loss. While, previously the movie was titled ‘Project X’, but later completely disappeared from the media, with no traces.

Until recently, when it resurfaced back with a new name and a trailer. ‘Project X’ aka ‘Hidden Strike’ was one of the most talked about films before it vanished completely. Its recent emergence into the mainstream media again made it a talking point amongst the fans. The movie would portray a geopolitical situation revolving around oil fields, and buddy-cop action.

The $80 million budget film is yet to reveal its release date, but it is expected to come later this year or early next year. Since the trailer featured several botched VFX and choppy graphics, the team still needs to work on it before releasing it on the big screen. ‘Hidden Strike’ wrapped up their shooting back in 2018, and released their trailer a few days ago.

Fans are now excited to see two of their favorite childhood heroes share the big screen together.

Who else is starring with John Cena in the movie?

Similar to the Rush Hour trilogy, ‘Hidden Strike’ will feature a Chinese law enforcer, and an American cop or soldier. Chan will star in as Luo Feng and John Cena as Chris Van Horne. This will be the first time, Chan and Cena will share the screen together.

The film will also feature Game of Thrones fame actor, Pilou Asbæk in the negative role. Fans remember Pilou Asbæk as Euron Greyjoy in Game of Thrones, where he portrayed the villainous uncle to Theon Greyjoy. The film also stars Chinese actors Gong Jun.

Scott Waugh is directing the film, he also has another project of his scheduled later this year, Expendables 4. The trailer projected why the film is in the action-comedy genre, and featured several moments which seemed inspired by the Fast & Furious franchise, and the Mad Max films.

With a release date probably scheduled for early next year, fans cannot wait and are excited to see Chan and Cena together.
