It is often said that Hulk Hogan always wanted creative control over his character in WWE. However, Vince McMahon never gave him that; hence, it is considered one of the reasons why Hogan left WWE.
When WCW presented a contract to The Hulkster, they agreed to give him some control. Many say Hogan was selfish and booked himself as the winner of many matches.

Recently, Eric Bischoff shed a light on whether or not was Hogan really selfish. Moreover, he also told the WWE Hall of Famer has a different vision.
Eric Bischoff says Hulk Hogan had to protect his brand
On the recent episode of the 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff answered a few fan questions. One of the questions was a thing about Hulk Hogan that wrestling fans misinterpret the most. The former WCW official said The Hulkster is the most generous person.
Bischoff said, “Within the dirt sheet, wrestling community, and internet wrestling narrates he was selfish, only cared about himself. I don’t believe that. I’ve experienced the opposite of that.”
The former RAW GM recalled Hogan at certain times, did act selfishly. Years later, Bischoff realized Hogan was right with his decision.
Further, Bischoff added, “Hulk’s got a different perspective than most. He had a brand to protect that most people don’t even understand. They’ve never had to protect the brand the way that Hulk Hogan had to protect the brand. They never experienced that challenge.”

As per the former Executive Producer and later Senior Vice President of WCW, nobody had experienced protecting their brand like The Hulkster. Therefore, some of the people outside may say this was selfish. Bischoff says this was not only in the best interest of Hulk Hogan, but it was best for wrestling.

Sometimes, Hogan was right, and sometimes wrong. However, he wasn’t being self-centered, selfish, or non-professional. The Immortal One worked as he learned in his years of experience in the business.
Hogan was protecting himself
Bischoff, in the same podcast, said, Hogan was a generous person and never acted selfishly without any reason. The former WCW official claimed The Hulkster was just protecting himself and sometimes became cynical, but he wasn’t selfish.
Bischoff said, “I used to tell Hulk all the time. I said, ‘You’re like a big f**king apple tree. You just like a big giant apple tree with these big giant apples on it. And there a bunch of people that are running around and that can’t hang out underneath that tree. They shake it every once in a while, so they get some apples out of it.’”
