The second night of WrestleMania 40 was a historic setting within WWE. The culmination of the story of Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes is one of those events that mark a before and after in the history of the business and it is not only about the victory of the youngest of the Rhodes but about the perfectly executed participation of faces such as John Cena, The Rock and mostly The Undertaker, who was one of the least expected superstars to make an appearance and yet the one who compelled the greatest responses throughout the night.

But while it was a moment of celebration for Rhodes and his fans, it also marked the sad end of the most dominating title reign in the modern era. And the Undertaker recently revealed what it was like backstage after the match.

In a recent edition of his Six Feet Under podcast, the Undertaker talked about the end segment of WrestleMania 40. As other WWE superstars joined Cody Rhodes to celebrate his win, there were a lot of ’emotional moments’ for Roman Reigns and others. Especially when the Tribal Chief made it backstage. He said, “But man, there was a lot of really emotional moments. Backstage, you know, you can imagine, you know, Roman coming back and after just what an amazing run as champion.”

Further emphasizing the Tribal Chief’s great run as champion, he added, “Yes. And I mean, it really, if you look at it and put it in today’s. The market, today’s market, what a phenomenal run. It’s not going to go down in the record, record books as the longest world title run.” However, like all good things, it was necessary for the WWE to bring an end to this run. Especially to mark a new beginning of the Paul Levesque era. And the creatives would be happy with the way WrestleMania turned out to be. But there was a change they would’ve appreciated even more, as they wanted another legend to appear on the show.

The Bloodline Rules made any intervention legal in the main event of night 2. Thus allowing, John Cena and The Undertaker to surprise the WWE Universe by making their return to the ring. Specifically, Undertaker’s moment became very special. The Deadman appeared out of nowhere to attack The Rock, thus proving who was the final boss of WrestleMania, and facilitating the victory for Cody Rhodes. Who still had to apply three Cross Rhodes in a row to take the victory by the count of three.

But apparently, the Undertaker position wasn’t for him originally. Instead, it was for “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. As reported by Dave Meltzer, journalist of Wrestling Observer. He revealed that WWE wanted Steve Austin for that moment, but the veteran wrestler did not reach an economic agreement with WWE and the company finally decided to place The Undertaker instead. And while the Rattlesnake could not appear, WWE fans surely wouldn’t mind the Deadman’s appearance instead.
