WWE Crown Jewel 2021 was a PPV full of firsts for WWE! Apart from the first-ever Women’s Championship match in Saudi Arabia, Jessika Carr became the first female referee to officiate a match in Saudi Arabia. Carr refereed the Hell in a Cell match between Edge and Seth Rollins.

However, that wasn’t the only match she worked at Crown Jewel. Jessika Carr also officiated the King of the Ring finals between Finn Balor and Xavier Woods.

It’s been a long journey to the top for Jessika Carr. She started as an official in NXT and climbed the ranks to reach SmackDown. Fast forward, she is now one of Edge’s favorite referees.

Edge requested Vince McMahon to have Jessika Carr at WWE Crown Jewel

Jessika Carr recently sat down with Table Talk, where she discussed her historic trip to Saudi Arabia. For those unaware, Edge only works with referees he is comfortable with. Ideally, Charles Robinson was Edge’s go-to referee. However, Robinson wasn’t planning to referee at SummerSlam, which gave birth to an opportunity for the WWE Official.

She said, “Charles wasn’t planned to be there, so it was a discussion between him and Edge of, ‘Hey, do you want to give Jessika a chance? I think Jessika will be a good option.'”

“Edge was all about giving me an opportunity to learn, to be in the ring with someone that has gone through all the things he has in his career. That was that first step of doing it at SummerSlam, and I stepped up to the plate.” She continued.

After impressing with her performance at SummerSlam, Carr became the official referee for the second bout between Edge and Rollins at MSG. In addition, it was at this show where Edge requested Vince McMahon to have Carr officiate his match at WWE Crown Jewel.

Jessika recalled, “I stepped up to the plate at Madison Square Garden, and it was standing in Gorilla with Edge and Edge asking Vince, ‘can we have her in Saudi Arabia.’ Vince was like, ‘Yeah, I think we can make that happen.” In addition, she said, “The week before I started hearing, ‘You have the cage in Saudi.”
