Dwayne Johnson hinted that he would be back in WWE when he parted ways with Cody Rhodes after WrestleMania XL. The former didn’t reveal what he would be up to once he returned to the promotion. However, there are speculations that we can expect him to run for a WWE Championship.

It is still unpredictable who may end up being his opponent. However, during a recent interaction, Dave Meltzer hinted at who Johnson may or may not wrestle against for a title when he comes back.

The Rock was originally going to feud with his cousin for his title and his post in the Anoa’i family stable. However, things took a turn when fans demanded The American Nightmare to take that role instead. Although the storyline concluded in the latter’s favor, Johnson still had his eyes on the Undisputed Universal Championship when he left on a hiatus.

Dave Meltzer said in the ‘Wrestling Observer Radio’ episode, “I look at this and go, ‘Cody can’t lose the title for a year.’ I mean he could… Dwayne has that people’s belt thing out there as a backup and that’s the reason they brought that into the discussion when they shot that angle is you know if the decision is made for Cody to lose.

Although the industry insider is not sure who Cody Rhodes would end up losing his title to, he believes that The Brahma Bull’s storyline for becoming a champion again is too important to miss, especially when it has already been introduced to the public. There was also a prediction about Dwayne Johnson’s character and what it might be in the future once he returns to the promotion again.

Dwayne Johnson may stay the same in the future

WWE usually plays with a character’s gimmick and alignment when a specific talent has stayed in one role for too long. Since fans had missed The Rock’s heel persona, they appreciated it even more when he came back. While talking on the Busted Open Podcast a while ago, the co-hosts shed light on the possibility of Johnson feuding with Roman Reigns in the future.

Since there are chances of a civil war in The Bloodline, we may see The Tribal Chief becoming a babyface, but the Final Boss could remain the same throughout. So, this would mean that even in the future, if Cody Rhodes becomes his opponent for the championship shot, we could end up seeing a heel Rock again. Although Meltzer doesn’t know whether the former AEW EVP would be tipped to lose against the TKO boss, there are chances that the match will go down regardless.
