Dwayne Johnson’s Mother Crying “Tears of Pride” as the WWE Legend Connects With His Ancestors

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is undoubtedly an achieved Hollywood star. Even for such a superstar, Johnson always stays grounded for his family. Not a lot of fans are aware that the WWE legend actually has his roots in the Samoan tribe. Since he has lived away from his home island for a long time, he lost the way of his people when it comes to the everyday lifestyle.

However, Johnson recently connected with his ancestors while also reliving the traditions. Although all of this happened on the set of a movie, his mother was nevertheless as proud of him as she could be.

Dwayne Johnson’s mother’s proud moment

Perhaps the best thing that a child can provide their parents with is a moment in which they can be proud of their little ones. Long before her late-night accident, Ata Johnson visited the sets of the popular Hollywood movie ‘Hobbs and Shaw’. The movie held a major point of interest for the Samoan people. It was shown that The Rock’s character was of Samoan origin, referencing his real-life identity.

“She was incredibly proud of the movie,” recalled the emotional Rock. This was the moment that she was involuntarily waiting for. Johnson then went on to add, “she came on the set and saw me speaking Samoan, calling upon my ancestors to give us strength and this is within the scene and she’s never heard me speak.” 

The scene filled Ata with tears. The emotions were overflowing inside out. What made the moment even more beautiful than a proud mother was Dwayne Johnson’s co-actors, going up to his mother to hug her and calm her down.

“The tears of pride that this is going to be such a beautiful moment in this big movie that the world will see and to showcase a culture… memory forever,” said Johnson while quoting his mother. She must be proud of her son. But moreover, Ata was proud of the fact that her very own culture will now be presented in front of a global and well-aware audience.

The sheer thought of this made her explode into a ball of happy emotions. That day, Johnson was happy seeing Ata being a proud mother as well as a proud tribal.
