Dwayne Johnson Reacts as Dusty Rhodes’ Protege Calls WWE Championships ‘Toys’ After Failing to Win a Single Title From 2017 to 2023

Do titles really define wrestling superstars? There is no doubt that those who hold titles in the promotion sit at the top of the ladder. But if a superstar doesn’t have a title, does it mean that he is not good or worthy enough as compared to others who have?

Well, certainly not. According to Kevin Owens, who once worked under the mentorship of Dusty Rhodes, titles don’t define wrestlers. Citing his own six-year championship gap, he explained the reason behind his perspective and why he thinks titles are like ‘toys’. And it looks like Dwayne Johnson agrees with him fully.

‘The Prizefighter’ recently had an interview with Ariel Helwani on TNT Sports. During the interview, he gave a piece of his mind and stated that he doesn’t believe a superstar needs to be a championship holder to be a recognized wrestler. In fact, he believes that the titles have little to no importance in this matter.

“I don’t think you are defined by the titles you win and the titles you lose,” he said. He later added, “It’s a great perspective to have. Because I didn’t necessarily have that perspective. I guess sometimes I feel like ‘Man, I haven’t won a title in a while’. Who cares? Really? They’re toys.”

‘The Rock’ showed his support for his opinion by dropping a like on his interview post on Instagram.

Owens mentioned that in the past, he didn’t have such a perspective. But over time, when people started to appreciate him and his work even when he was not a championship holder in the promotion, he developed this mindset.

‘KO’ used his WWE career as an example to corroborate his statement. He elucidated he had no titles in his possession for six long years. He lost his US Championship in July 2017 and then gained the Tag Team Championship in April 2023, but still, his value in the company didn’t decline at all.

People would still appreciate his work, and he was involved in major storylines over these past years. This clearly proves his point that titles don’t define a wrestler. There are numerous examples to demonstrate this. Let’s take the example of Owen’s mentor, Dusty Rhodes, who is a magnanimous personality in WWE.

In his entire career, he never won any title in the promotion. But that hasn’t affected his legendary status even a little. Despite having zero title reigns in the Stamford-based promotion, he is still an icon, a legend, a hero, and much more in the industry. No one can deny that indeed.
