A pro wrestler goes through many changes in his lifetime before sticking to a gimmick that suits their persona. Even WWE legends like Steve Austin and Dwayne Johnson underwent a trial-and-error method before sticking to their ring names. Before, Dwayne Johnson became the biggest action movie star in Hollywood; he gained mainstream appeal as The Rock.

However, he has many nicknames throughout his career. In an interview for the promotion of his show Young Rock, he revealed a unique but special nickname he had when he was young.

Dwayne Johnson reveals the first nickname of his life

The Black Adam actor was present during a Zoom interview Television Critics Association for his NBC Comedy Show Young Rock, where he revealed his first nickname. As per Johnson, his family bestowed it to him.

During the interview, Johnson was snapping his fingers and laughing when he said, “When I was a little baby, I was with my godparents. I was probably, from what I’m told, 6 months old. And my mom had said to my godmother, ‘Is his diaper wet?’ She goes, ‘No. He’s just a little dewy.

As per Johnson, the nickname Dewy was given by his grandmother when he was just 6 months old. Johnson’s mother, Ata Johnson, stated something similar about The Rock during her appearance on the Good Morning America show in 2018. Though her story differed slightly from The People’s Champ.

Though his grandma’s nickname was cute, it did not bring laurels to his dating game. The Rock further narrated, “In my existence for years, when my parents would come around in front of my girlfriends or friends or anyone, (it was), ‘Hey, Dewey!’ automatically. Because it’s not like that’s a powerful name. Automatically, people were like, ‘Oh, God.

The Rock suffered embarrassment many times in front of his friends and girlfriends because of his nickname. Since he was a tall and strong lad who was into pro football, his nickname did not match his persona. However, during his wrestling days, he accrued a wide range of nicknames.

Dwayne Johnson wanted to incorporate a bizarre nickname in his initial years

During his initial days, Dwayne Johnson struggled with ring names and nicknames for his character. He started with Rocky Maivia before he became The Rock. Later, he adopted nicknames like The People’s Champ and Brahma Bull. These nicknames have etched itself in the minds of the wrestling faithful as they have garnered fond memories associated with it.

However, in an interview on Late Night with Conan, he revealed another bizarre nickname he thought of. He said, “I have one, I have been saying, but it hasn’t stuck. It’s called ‘Big Long Daddy From Cincinnati’.

Nevertheless, the wrestling community did not have to go through that ordeal.
