Dwayne Johnson Once Jokingly Tried to Outshine Late Heath Ledger’s Iconic Performance as the Joker in the Dark Knight

Heath Ledger is no more. But his legendary performance as the Joker keeps him alive in the hearts of fans around the world. The late actor’s portrayal of the villain in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight was so raw and real that it sent shivers down the viewers’ spines.

The massive amount of love and appreciation Ledger got since his classic role in the $185 million movie is by itself quite an achievement. The actor was also honored posthumously with the coveted Academy Award in the Best Supporting Act category. His peer Dwyane ‘The Rock’ Johnson, however, recently revealed that he felt there was someone more deserving of the award.

The Rock jokingly took a jab at the late Heath Ledger’s Oscar

Despite recording an enviable career in the entertainment world with a bunch of hits in the bucket, The Rock is yet to snag the greatest achievement in the world of acting – the Oscar. The Jumanji star has been eyeing the prize since 2009. An interviewer from Bleacher Report asked him how he felt about Heath Ledger winning the Oscar for his role in The Dark Knight back then.

The Rock jokingly made a shocking claim despite being an ardent admirer of the legendary actor. DJ noted, ”First of all, let that man rest in peace. I have tons of respect for him and he gave a stellar performance, but I think I should have won that.”

The interviewer wanted to know if it was his character in Doom that he deemed to be worth an Oscar. Johnson continued in a joking tone, ”No roody poo, the Rock gave a performance in which he was Walking Tall, I’m talking about my supporting actor role on Hannah Montana.”

It’s very clear that ‘The Rock’ was not making a serious claim. It was merely a funny exchange between him and the host.

During a recent interview with Ary News, the prolific actor noted that an audience-first philosophy is ideal to follow for every actor. He pointed out that viewers spend their hard-earned money to watch movies in theatres. This is why holds himself accountable to them first.

However, fans are looking forward to the day when ‘The Rock’ will receive an Oscar.
