The animated Disney film is undoubtedly one of Johnson’s best performances to date, as he played a shape-shifting demigod. Now, there are reports that Johnson has featured in another Disney project, seven years after doing Moana.

Johnson played a small part in the Disney short Once Upon a Studio. He reprised his role as Maui from Moana. The nine-minute short animation celebrates Disney’s 100 years. It was released on October 16 in the United States.
The project shows various Disney characters over the years, who come together for a group photo. Apart from Johnson, the late Robin Williams also features as the company used his archived voice. Williams, who died in 2014, immortalized the character of ‘Genie’ in the 1992 animated film Aladdin.
Several other characters from various Disney movies and artists who played them also took part in the project. Meanwhile, Moana is considered to be one of the best-animated films from the Disney stable. The movie grossed over $600 million worldwide.
Apart from Johnson, singer Nicole Scherzinger also played a pivotal character in the film. Actress Auliʻi Cravalho played the titular role. If you are a Moana fan, there’s a reason for you to celebrate.
When will the Moana live action remake release?
Yes, in case you didn’t know this, the 2016 movie is set for a live-action with Johnson reprising his demigod role. The actor announced it on April 3 of this year.
But fans will have to wait a bit longer for the movie. Typically, a live-action movie takes around 2-3 years to complete and as per Johnson, it is in the making stage at the moment.

On June 1, Johnson announced on Instagram that “Tony Award winning “HAMILTON” director Thomas Kail” will direct the movie. Later that month, he posted another update and said the live-action remake is set for a June 27, 2025 release.
