Dwayne Johnson Dwarfs John Cena’s Henry Cavill and Dua Lipa Assisted New Movie at the Box Office

Dwayne Johnson and John Cena are two of the most decorated WWE superstars of all time. So much so, that they would probably make the Mount Rushmore of many wrestling pundits. Considered the best of their eras, the two superstars have followed the same trajectory in their careers. They have capitalised on their WWE fame to bolster their Hollywood career. While Dwayne Johnson has already made it big in Hollywood, Cena is on his way.

Just like their WrestleMania match at WrestleMania 28, The Rock has beaten Cena again, but this time at the box office with Cena’s recent release.

The Rock beats John Cena again, but at  Box-office

Apple Original Films released their recent movie titled ‘Argylle’ starring Samuel L. Jackson, Henry Cavill and Dua Lipa alongside John Cena. However, the film seems to have tanked at the box office with a gross collection of $6.5 million on the first day. Overall, the movie grossed $16.5 million worldwide in the first weekend.

The movie is directed by Matthew Vaughn and written by Jason Fuchs. The movie plot revolves around introverted novelist Elly who finds her fictional spy novels predicting real-life events, plunging her into a dangerous world of espionage and repressed memories. She teams up with a rogue spy to uncover the truth, ultimately betraying her family and the organization that brainwashed her, all while battling enemies and rediscovering her past. John Cena plays the role of Wyatt.

On the other hand, Cena’s rival Dwayne Johnson’s last release was DCEU’s Black Adam. Though the film is considered a flop overall, it grossed over $143 million on the first weekend with $26.5 million on the first day. The film has grossed nearly $400 million overall globally since its release in October 2022. Hence, Dwayne Johnson has beaten John Cena on the box office as both of their last releases have contrasting collection numbers.

Why is Black Adam Dwayne Johnson’s last movie till date?

Since the release of the Black Adam movie, Dwayne Johnson has engaged himself in multiple projects including entrepreneurial ventures and a return to WWE. Not only he has returned to WWE as The Rock, but he has also joined the board of TKO Group as a board member.

Though, his inclusion as a board member has been widely celebrated by fans, his return to WWE has been equally criticized. The Rock’s match against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania has come at the cost of Cody Rhodes finishing his story. Fans were heavily invested in it and its resulted in hatred towards The People’s Champion.
