Among the most recognizable roles Johnson has played in Hollywood, Maui is among the top. Playing to his roots, he voiced the demigod based on a great cultural hero and trickster in Polynesian mythology. Fans loved his voicing of the character in the Walt Disney Animation Studios’s 2016 massive hit, ‘Moana.’
While on The Tonight Show, Johnson was talking about his upcoming projects. With the Hollywood Writer’s strike coming to an end on September 27, 2023, many projects can move forward. While talking about those projects, Johnson made a huge announcement.

Johnson said, “My next project that I will be shooting is the live-action version of Moana.” This got a massive pop from the live audience. As mentioned before, the movie was a massive hit, earning $682.6 million worldwide. One of the praising aspects of the movie was the WWE icon’s voicing of the ‘Maui’ character. With Disney making live-action remakes of their existing IPs, fans already wanted Johnson to play the real-life version of the character.
The Hollywood star continued, “I am the real-life Maui.” This got another pop from the audience. He went on to reveal the director of the movie Thomas Kail. Kail directed the 2020 Hamilton movie, which was another massive hit as well. Following the announcement, Johnson did an impromptu song number. This was the You’re Welcome song from the movie. But will this affect his prospects with WWE?

Dwayne Johnson returned to SmackDown just weeks before the Hollywood writer’s strike ended. His return was on September 15, 2023, and gained a thunderous pop from the fans in attendance. This sparked online speculation as to what role he would be playing in any of the storylines.
However, it’s been over a month now, and nothing has been revealed. Johnson has not made any other appearance in the WWE since his return. Fans are eagerly awaiting any kind of news or confirmation as to what role he could potentially play in The Bloodline’s storyline.
