It is very rare to see a wrestler come back to WWE after being released by them. If this happens, then it means that the wrestler in question has proven their worth in other wrestling promotions. WWE, having realized their value, gives them another chance. Drew McIntyre is the most recent example of the same.

Drew McIntyre looks up to John Cena
In an interview with Bleacher Report, McIntyre disclosed that after his break away from WWE he shaped himself after the face of the company, John Cena.
“I always talk about John Cena as someone I patterned myself after, after I was released rather than learning from him in the moment when I was there on the roster,” McIntyre said. “Instead of working to better myself on the roster, it took getting fired and bettering myself personally before I thought of who I could look up to in this business and whose mentality I needed. I thought about John and how relentless he was with everything he did: be it in media, the gym, in the ring and every aspect of his life.”
He realized who he could look up to in the business. It took getting released by WWE for him to do so.
All praises for Cena
Drew McIntyre praised John Cena for his work in WWE and added that The Miz adopted the same pathway. McIntyre revealed that John Cena is a workaholic. He remembers speaking to himself one day and stating that he’s going to be that guy too.
‘The Scottish Psychopath‘ explains how he would take full advantage of any kind of position where he was able to take the reins and get the media opportunities. Whether it was outside of WWE or inside it, that did not matter. Drew reports that the second he had that title, he said, “Give me it all! I’m that guy now, there’s no excuse, I want every little bit of it.”
What does the future hold?
Following his loss to Bobby Lashley at WrestleMania 37, McIntyre got another opportunity for the WWE Championship at Backlash. The match was a triple threat match which included the ‘Monster Among Men’ Braun Strowman, the ‘Scottish Psychopath’ Drew McIntyre, and the champion ‘Almighty’ Bobby Lashley.
