Metzler reported that Gulak’s contract ended, and the Superstar chose to not renew it further. However, the company did not release him, so that puts many assumptions to rest. The company had previously released other Superstars because of budget restraints due to the current world pandemic.
WWE was interested in renewing Gulak’s contract, but Metzler confirmed that Gulak demanded more money, which WWE refused outright. Consequently, Gulak’s profile has moved to the alumni section of the WWE website.
Gulak last wrestled against Daniel Bryan in the Intercontinental Championship tournament. He lost the match to Bryan, who he is very close with both on and off-screen. Gulak’s sudden departure is shocking, but it’s unclear what the superstar has planned.

Drew Gulak let his contract run out, which means he does not have any clause which limits him from joining a new organization. AEW stands as the top option for him, given the direct rivalry between both companies.
Gulak signed from WWE in 2016 and won the Cruiserweight championship after many unsuccessful title matches. Later, he was promoted to the SmackDown brand, where he adopted the gimmick of a person who hates high flyers.
His gimmick hit the right chord with the fans. Gulak went to toe to toe with the likes of Braun Strowman, Cedric Alexander, and Daniel Bryan.

The company severely underutilized the Superstar. He lost many title opportunities and was never really shown the limelight. Gulak could make a move to AEW soon as he is unlikely to bag a deal with WWE again.
Former WWE superstars such as Cody Rhodes, Jericho, Luke Harper, and many more have joined forces with AEW. Will Drew Gulak be the next one? Only time will tell.
