Cody Rhodes’ match against Roman Reigns was nothing short of spectacular. After trading back-to-back near falls, Roman Reigns emerged victorious with a little assist from Solo Sikoa and Paul Heyman. Naturally, Rhodes, who lost in front of his fans and family, was left shattered in the ring. Moreover, the WWE Universe did not take his loss very kindly.
While speaking with Sports Illustrated, the 2023 Royal Rumble winner explained how the WWE higher-ups warned him against going online after his loss. According to him, he was approached by managerial people who advised him to stay away from social media as the fans were upset about his loss.
He said, “A lot of managerial people in the company reached out to me, checking on me. And also reached out to me and let me know like don’t go online, don’t go online, and I didn’t even think to go, it’s that’s such an incredibly busy week there’s so many emotions in that experience.”
Rhodes further added that he was already embarrassed about the fact that he lost the match in front of his family. Furthermore, he was being prepared for what was going to come next in his career. However, Rhodes was shocked to learn that fans were frustrated.
He added, “I got my family with me at the time. I’ve lost in front of them, which is another level of embarrassment. I didn’t even think to go online, but just the fact that they were preparing me and like, battening down the hatches for this is shaky, people are really frustrated. That surprised me, that surprised me a lot.”
Although a lot of time has passed since Rhodes’ defeat to Roman Reigns, the wounds from his loss remain open. And even if Cody Rhodes is no longer involved in a feud with Roman Reigns, his story remains to be finished.
