After adding several new faces to his production house, Dwayne Johnson made another big announcement. The Hollywood icon announced his latest venture with The Nacelle Company. Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions will be co-producing a new animated series titled RoboForce based on the iconic line of toys from the 80s. The story will be set in the future where renegade robots come out of hiding to help humanity. While there are no updates on whether Johnson will be voicing any characters in this animated series, this does give rise to a question. What other animated projects was Dwayne Johnson involved in?

DC League of Superpets

One of the most memorable entries on this list is the DC Superpets animated movie. The movie was co-produced by Seven Bucks Production along with Warner Animation Group and DC Entertainment. Released back in 2022, this was Johnson’s first movie based on a character from DC Comics before the release of Black Adam. Apart from co-producing the movie, the 51-year-old WWE star also voiced the lead character, Krypto. Krypto is a super pet who grew up with Superman (voiced by John Krasinski).

When Superman and the other members of the Justice League are captured by the villainous Lulu, the responsibility of freeing them and saving the world lands on the shoulders of Krypto and his other super animal friends. Apart from Johnson and Krasinski, the movie had a star-studded ensemble which included Kevin Hart, and Keanu Reeves. The film was well received at the box office and gave the production house the confidence to go ahead with the RoboForce animated series.

Moana

Released back in 2016 by Disney, Moana made Johnson a part of Disney’s many fairytales. The musical, fantasy, action-adventure movie paved the way for Johnson toward a demographic who might not be familiar with his WWE work. The movie is based loosely on the Hawaiian mythos and Johnson plays the demigod Maui. In the movie, the titular character, Moana (voiced by Chloe Cravalho), embarks on a journey to restore the balance of nature on the island of Motunui. But before that, she has to enlist the help of demigod Maui.

The movie was well-received by the audience due to the storyline, animation, music, and many other factors. The original songs featured in the movie quickly became instant hits, with the song “You’re Welcome”, sung by Dwayne Johnson, becoming a chartbuster. Following the film’s success, a live-action adaption of the movie starring the same cast has been announced and is slated for a 2025 release.

Planet 51

This entry on the list is rather obscure and lesser known compared to other movies. Planet 51 was a collaborative production effort between studios based in Spain, the United Kingdom, and Canada. The movie was released back in 2009, at a time when Dwayne Johnson’s production house was not in existence. The movie follows the adventures of a NASA astronaut (voiced by Johnson) who lands on Planet 51 only to discover it to be inhabited by aliens. The sci-fi comedy then follows the adventures of said astronaut and his attempt to get back to Earth. The movie was not well-received critically and had tough competition that year. The box-office collections were not good as the movie had to fight against 2012, Twilight Saga: New Moon and the Blind Side.

Television appearances

Apart from being animated on the big screen, Johnson has graced the small screen in his animated form. Fans did see Johnson in the beloved animated sitcom Family Guy but in a cut-away gag. In a season eight episode titled Big Man Hippocampus, a cut-away gag featured a live-action version of The Brahma Bull playing with the action figures of Lois and Peter Griffin in a scene that caught fans off guard. Johnson has admitted in the past that he is a fan of the series and is a very good friend of the show’s creator, Seth MacFarlane.

Apart from that, Johnson also had a very small role in the animated series Transformers Prime back in 2010. He voiced the character that went by the name of Cliffjumper. Unfortunately, his role was short-lived as the character was killed in the pilot episode to set the story in motion. Which of these animated appearances by Dwayne Johnson is your favorite?
