WWE superstar and son of legendary Rey Mysterio, Dominik, is enjoying a career revival after joining Judgement Day. With the heel faction by his side, Dominik has looked strong and an integral part of the roster. However, there has always been a question of whether Dominik would’ve made it this far this quickly had it not been for his father Rey Mysterio. A former WWE tag team champion recently talked about Dominik and whether he would train him while also bringing up Rey’s role in his success.

In recent months, Dominik Mysterio has shown his quality and shone as a star on Monday Night RAW. On his Cafe De Rene podcast, Rene Dupree, who wrestled in WWE from 2003 to 2007 suggested that Dominik needs to hit the gym and he would train him. But he then said Dominik probably doesn’t need that due to his father’s status in WWE.

Rene Dupree believes Rey Mysterio and his status in WWE has helped Dominik

Dominik Mysterio debuted in WWE alongside his legendary father Rey Mysterio. The father-son duo had a good run in the ring and even won the SmackDown tag team championships. However, in September at Clash at the Castle, Dominik attacked his father and turned heel, joining hands with Judgement Day. This has led to an interest in his character as he had been playing a babyface so far in his career.

The fact he attacked his father and goaded him to strike back over the next few weeks only added further intrigue to his in-ring character. He has become a key part of the RAW roster since. But according to many people, Rey Mysterio’s influence and push for his son in WWE has a lot to do with this success.

Speaking on his Cafe De Renee podcast, Rene Dupree answered a question about whether he would train Dominik Mysterio. He said, “Would I train him? Yeah, he needs to hit the gym. As fans know a good-looking muscular physique can go a long way in achieving success in WWE. But Dupree then cheekily accused Dominik of exploiting his father’s name to avoid such things. He said, But you know what? 85% is backstage. His dad’s loved and a legend and he doesn’t have to.”

Given how many talents have to jump through hoops to even get a chance in WWE, these comments may not be too off the mark. It is true to an extent that Dominik got his foot inside the WWE door because of his father’s status and has been pushed into top storylines mainly because his father is on good terms with the company.

But since then he has carved his own identity, especially since splitting from his father. In going from a fan-favorite face to a despicable heel Dominik has shown he has a wide range of skills for succeeding in WWE. There was the obvious NXT step which he skipped but so far Dominik has shown that he can hang with the big boys under the bright lights.

Rey Mysterio may have had a hand in providing his son an early break in WWE, but he is slowly making a name for himself in the industry. Dominik’s in-ring talent was obvious from the get-go and his recent work as a heel has further added credibility to his credentials.
