Dominik Mysterio Received a Massive Upgrade in 2023 After an Unpredictable 2022

Despite being hated by fans, the WWE fandom can’t ignore Dominik Mysterio’s presence on the main roster. While the member of Judgment Day rarely gets a chance to cut a promo all by himself, that doesn’t stop him from being a part of thrilling matches. The star made his debut back in August 2020, under the wing of his father, Rey Mysterio. However, since his debut, and compared to the year 2022, WWE made sure to push the star in every way possible.

 

What changed for Dominik Mysterio?

According to reports, Dirty Dom has participated in almost 100 matches in the year 2023. This includes all the Premium Live Events, weekly episodes of Raw, occasional appearances on NXT and SmackDown, and various live shows across the world. As compared to 2022, it is almost a 100% increase from last year. The 26-year-old star participated in just 50 matches.

One thing that could be credited to this massive jump in numbers is his heel turn. Dominik Mysterio betrayed his father and turned against him. The shocking incident took place at the 2022 Clash of the Castle in the match against The Judgment Day. Dirty Dom had joined hands with Edge to take down the heel stable as both had their motives behind it but turned his back on them.

However, as the dust settled and the winners, that is Rey Mysterio and Edge were celebrating their victory, Dom Dom attacked the veterans.  Eventually, the two clashed at WrestleMania 39, which Rey Mysterio had won.

While the year 2023 was a phenomenal one for Dominik Mysterio, WWE might have some major plans for the heel for Dom in 2024.

What plans does WWE have for Dominik Mysterio?

According to reports, WWE has

extended their contract with Dominik Mysterio. It is also said that the contract will extend till 2029 which will be almost 5 years long. Along with that, his father, Rey Mysterio has also signed a new contract with WWE. While there is no confirmation on how long the contract will be, it is said that the LWO member will stay here for a while. Currently, he has been written off as he suffered an attack from former stablemate, Santos Escobar. But what is WWE planning by extending their contracts?

Dominik Mysterio’s heel run started after he turned on Rey Mysterio. The latter is considered a legend by fans and they got infuriated after his son did that to him. The possible reason why the father and the son might stay for some time might be because WWE wants to use Rey Mysterio for Dom Dom’s redemption arc. Dominik Mysterio making amends with his father will bring his story to full circle.

This will help in establishing him as the face of the company soon. Another possibility could be if WWE wants to go forward with his heel persona, defeating Rey Mysterio in his farewell match might help in establishing him as this generation’s legend killer.
