Dominik Mysterio Could Be Laughing as Recent Update Hints at His Arch Nemesis Suffering Injury Worse Than Expected

SmackDown wasn’t a great night for Rey Mysterio. While the master of 6-1-9 would have liked to face off against Theory for his United States Championship, an unfortunate injury rain parade. With this, the legendary superstar lost his chance to advance to the US title.

However, even though Dominik Mysterio wasn’t on the show tonight, he might have had the last laugh after seeing his arch-nemesis in pain and agony. 

Rey Mysterio’s unfortunate injury

While SmackDown produced an interesting episode, fans were eagerly anticipating the clash between Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar.

The two luchadores would have easily produced a classic. However, the match had to be called off early because of Rey Mysterio’s injury.

According to the reports by Ringside News, “Rey Mysterio sustained a legitimate injury on SmackDown.” 

According to reports, WWE confirmed that Rey’s injury was legitimate despite not being serious initially. Also, WWE decided not to go ahead with their plans for a backstage segment after the match.

The injury apparently occurred after Escobar hit a suicide dive onto Mysterio on the outside, causing the legendary superstar to hit his head.

While the injury in itself is highly unfortunate, one person who could actually consider this incident a victory is none other than Rey’s son, NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio.

Dominik Mysterio had the last laugh

The father-son duo has a well-documented ongoing feud. After joining Judgment Day and betraying his own family, Dominik has been in everyone’s bad books. 

And while Rey and Dominik clashed at WrestleMania, which saw Rey emerge victorious, things were far from okay.

The animosity reached a new level when last week Rey Mysterio gave permission to Dragon Lee from NXT to take on Dominik for Dom’s North American Championship.

To add fire to the fuel, Mysterio hoped for Lee to beat Dom and capture the title in the presence of his legendary superstar. 

With an injury, the future Hall of Famer not only lost his opportunity but will now be on the sidelines for some time, making Dominik Mysterio the happiest man.
