Cody Rhodes returned to the WWE at the Grandest Stage of Them All, WrestleMania 38. Despite being away for six years, Rhodes returned to a massive reception and victory against Seth Rollins at WM and, since then, had a successful run. Being the babyface of the company, Rhodes’ new The American Nightmare gimmick has won him over with the fans. However, one 38-year-old former WWE star reminded Rhodes about his last gimmick that he hated.

Rhodes will participate at Survivor Series 2023 with WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, Sami Zayn, and Jey Uso.

Zack Ryder reminds Cody Rhodes about his loss as Stardust

Matt Cardona, a.k.a Zack Ryder, was once one of the most popular stars in the WWE. Using his social media presence, he won over the wrestling legion despite being part of lackluster storylines in the WWE. With his PG gimmick, he was hilarious in the WWE, and his recent comment showcases he’s still got it.

Ryder is well-versed in social media and knows how to ensure complete fan engagement. His quick wit and hilarious replies have kept him relevant despite not being part of the WWE. Ryder made a name for himself online by commenting on WWE-related posts now and again.

Taking to social media, he commented on a post made by Wrestle Features. The social media account posted a list of names of wrestlers who beat Rhodes ahead of Survivor Series 2023. Despite his name making the list, Ryder commented, “I pinned Stardust. Different guy.” While Stardust was a gimmick that Rhodes used, it is known that he hated it, and this little jab shows that Ryder still retains his sense of humor.

On the June 16, 2014, episode of RAW, Rhodes debuted the Stardust gimmick, and this continued until he left the company. Rhodes made it clear on multiple occasions that he hated the gimmick and pleaded with writers to end the gimmick.

Why Rhodes left the WWE after Stardust?

During his first run in the WWE, Rhodes was always a mid-carder. Despite being the son of Dusty Rhodes, he never reached his full potential. The Stardust gimmick was the last nail in Rhodes’ WWE coffin.

After playing the Stardust gimmick for over a year, Rhodes knew the character would go nowhere. While being stuck on the mid-card, Rhodes decided to leave the WWE.
