Body art and tattoos are an important part of a pro wrestler’s attire and culture. For example, Dwayne Johnson proudly displays his Samoan heritage on his body. Similarly, Roman Reigns and The Bloodline’s heritage are also depicted through their tattoos.
However, not every wrestler showcases their heritage through their body art, and some instead choose to ink something very close to their heart. A 37-year-old top WWE superstar recently revealed the motivation behind his iconic tattoo, and it inclined toward Dwayne Johnson.

The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes recently took to his Twitter account to answer a fan’s question about his inspiration for his tattoos. Rhodes would answer the question in a tricky manner. And instead of taking direct names, he would make subtle hints.
Cody Rhodes has multiple tattoos, however, out of all those, his neck tattoo is one of the most infamous pieces of body art. Obnoxiously large, and eye-catching, Rhodes got this inked during AEW’s Revolution PPV in the year 2020.
I don’t really know 😂
There were 2 guys that really inspired me, one had a chest tat and the other had the iconic bull on his arm…at the time I just wanted to wear my own brand as loudly and proudly as I could but didn’t want to copy their style https://t.co/EmCWEPxOWu

Speaking on Twitter, he said, “There were 2 guys that really inspired me, one had a chest tat and the other had the iconic bull on his arm…at the time I just wanted to wear my own brand as loudly and proudly as I could but didn’t want to copy their style.”
Several superstars in WWE sport a chest tattoo, while The Rock proudly sported the iconic bull tattoo. Rhodes’ rival Brock Lesnar also sports a massive chest and torso tattoo. However, going by his words, Johnson was the one behind inspiring Rhodes to get his neck tattoo.
The Rock used to sport a small bull tattoo on his arm but later modified it to its latest version. Dwayne Johnson and Cody Rhodes both have multiple inks on their body, and their meanings are special to them. We don’t know the significance behind all the tattoos of Rhodes but the answer behind the meaning of the neck tattoo is clear.
What does Cody Rhodes’ iconic neck tattoo mean?
The American Nightmare got himself this infamous permanent tattoo in the year 2020, prior to his match against MJF at AEW Revolution. The tattoo covered the entire right side of his neck, with red and blue colors. It represented his “American Nightmare” logo and was a constant reminder of his character.

In early 2020, Rhodes would get himself inked on the neck, and it even shocked his wife. WWE Legend Kurt Angle also mocked his tattoo. Rhodes has multiple other tattoos such as the ‘Dream’ tattoo on his chest, and a geometric tattoo on his fingers.
The 37-year-old has come a long way and is currently looking forward to his next challenge in the form of Brock Lesnar. Perhaps looking inward might provide the superstar the force necessary to slay The Beast Incarnate.
