The rise of Brock Lesnar was understandable due to his athletic prowess, but he truly became a mega-star once when he entered the octagon. Proving himself in a sport mixed with such excitement and reality gave his name credibility. Without that, we might not even see Lesnar put on a pedestal in WWE. By competing, he cleared his name of being a one-trick pony and showcased the ability of a pro wrestler.

Many people believe that pro wrestling is just a facade, and no one is ever hurt. But that is a misconstrued myth about wrestling that people have continued since the time Hulk Hogan was on screen. But it all drastically changed once behemoths like Lesnar appeared in UFC and tore through the competition.

On Something to Wrestle the host, Bruce Prichard talked about Lesnar’s debut in UFC. He mentioned the importance of a pro wrestler going into MMA for the first time. While there were people who had come from the UFC to WWE. This was the first time someone home-grown in WWE was going to the UFC.

He continued on to say, “I think guys genuinely liked Brock too and wanted to see him succeed, but more than anything didn’t want him to embarrass the wrestling business by going in and getting destroyed.” But he ended his story with backstage gossip about Lesnar’s debut by saying that there was no way that Lesnar would just roll over and accept defeat in the octagon in the first place.

But the battle to prove his legitimacy didn’t stop there. In his book, DeathClutch, Lesnar has an entire monologue about him feeling overlooked and living with a dark cloud when people were doubting his skills as a wrestler.

On a distinct note, since his successful switch to MMA, many wrestlers have tried it as well, but none have reached the popularity of Lesnar. Given the status of pro wrestling right now, it doesn’t seem like anyone in WWE wants to try achieving the same goal as Lesnar, except maybe Roman Reigns, the Tribal Chief, after his glorious run ends.
