The return of CM Punk marked a turning point in the history of the industry. Being a superstar who, during the last decade, did nothing but express resentment towards WWE, his change of heart and decision to return to the company put in the spotlight several previous statements and speculations about matches that could be in WWE’s plans. One of those dream plans was a match between him and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Back in 2022, Austin came out of retirement to have a match against Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38. It was a match that seemed unthinkable before it finally happened. Since then, there have been many who have asked the former world champion about his return to the ring. And in a recent documentary on the legend, he gave a definitive answer.

A&E recently made a documentary on the WWE legend, Austin. The documentary covered the rise and retirement of the Texas rattlesnake. And in the end, Austin was asked if he would like to return for one last match. To which he said that he would be more content being a retired superstar. He said, “I walked away. I’m happy when I did. There’s people who’ve done more, last longer. I had a pretty good run, and I’m pretty happy with it.”

However, the answer also brings to mind what he said during an interview with ESPN, where he stated that he would not mind facing CM Punk if he was put to it. In fact, he wouldn’t even mind getting into the ring one more time if the stars aligned. Austin said, “I said I’d never get in a ring again unless all the stars aligned. And for some reason, somehow, they all did. And at the age of 57, I headlined the first night of WrestleMania. I never thought I’d do that. If you’d have told me that when I retired in 2003, I’d have said, ‘You’re crazy.’ So I’m not gonna sit here and say no to anything, because you never say never in this crazy business of sports entertainment.”

He further added the possibility of facing the Cult of Personality, “I like Punk, and I think he likes me. So, as long as you want to put up with a Stone Cold Stunner, that’s the option. I consider him a great friend, a great guy, and a great fighter who has had a great career. We’ll see.” So ever since, fans have been waiting for the Texas Rattlesnake to make his return to feud with the Cult of Personality.

Fans await the CM Punk vs. Steve Austin fight

The dream match featuring Punk and Austin has been on the minds of WWE fans for a long time now. And now that Punk is back in the promotion, fans surely want the match to come to fruition. Especially when Austin did not directly say no to the question. And now that we know that his talks of a dream match with Roman Reigns are no longer taking place, Punk seems like the perfect guy to have a fight against. As finally one of the anti-heroes will have to turn full babyface.

While some users believed that CM Punk would be all ready for the fight despite the fact that he is out because of an injury, he too wouldn’t want to miss this opportunity. After all, everyone knows that the match would surely be a spectacle to watch for all. Like the one he had against Owens.
