The Attitude Era was a significant turn for WWE on its path to beat its rival competitor, WCW during the mid-1990s. Credited as one of the most important eras for the global juggernaut, it brought larger-than-life characters to existence. Among those names, two completely polar opposites yet alpha WWE superstars were Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Undertaker.

The Hell Raiser and The Phenom emerged as two of the biggest WWE stars ever. They even had some matches and were involved in engaging storylines. But even then, what led a former WWE legend to make a startling statement about the duo sharing a ring together?

Stone Cold Steve Austin reigned as the poster boy for Vince McMahon’s WWE during the Attitude Era. On the other hand, The Undertaker became his most loyal in-ring performer and a cornerstone. Moreover, both main event stars crossed paths and were pitted against each other on a number of occasions.

However, WWE Hall of Famer and Steve Austin’s best friend, Jim Ross had a completely different perspective on it. Ross claimed that Austin and Undertaker had no chemistry in their rivalry and matches. He did not deny the caliber and accomplishments of either individual. But felt that there was something when it came to the Attitude Era’s two biggest attractions together. Ross spoke about it during the latest episode of his podcast, Grilling JR.

Ross said, “Taker and Stone Cold didn’t have great chemistry, they worked together, they are pros and they worked together and they drew money together. But they weren’t compatible, from a psychological standpoint, timing standpoint, all those things. They’re both alpha males, they are going to lead they’re going to dance to what they hear.”

He added, “And that’s important, quite frankly, to the success of any match. You gotta make sure that you got some chemistry there, and you’re on the same page. And it wasn’t that they were jealous or there was a negative issue. It’s just sometimes that’s the way it is.”

Taker and Austin last wrestled each other in a match at Backlash in 2002 in a number one contender’s match for the WWE Undisputed Championship.

Jim Ross’ views might come as a shocker for some, but not for all. As he mentioned, Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Undertaker both had different career graphs and presentations. Moreover, when it came to great chemistry, people always picked Vince McMahon and The Rock for Steve Austin and stars like Kane or Mick Foley for The Deadman.

Regardless of that, Steve Austin and The Undertaker have delivered some of the most memorable matches in history. The duo has competed on stages like RAW and SummerSlam under various stipulation matches and has never failed to amaze the audience.
