Dwayne Johnson grabbed headlines when he finally made his return to the Fast & Furious franchise. After vowing to never return to the franchise, Johnson reconciled with Vin Diesel and made an appearance in the post-credits scene of Fast X. The film had a decent run at the box office. In the domestic market, however, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie has given Fast X a run for its money.

The Margot Robbie-starrer film and Christopher Nolan-directed Oppenheimer premiered together earlier this month. But Barbie broke records by tallying around $155 million from its opening weekend, which is a far cry from what Fast X earned.

Dwayne Johnson’s return to the $6 billion Fast franchise made a lot of noise. However, Fast X failed to rev up to the numbers that Barbie hit in its first weekend. According to reports, Barbie’s domestic grossing on the first weekend trumped the entire domestic earning of Fast X.

Although Fast X grossed $320 million worldwide, it only managed to garner a lackluster $67.5 million in its domestic debut. In addition, Fast X’s reported budget was $350 million, making it a financial flop. Whereas, Barbie, with a budget of $150 million, raked in a whopping $155 million in domestic theaters. In addition, the film grossed another $182 million globally.

Barbie has already surpassed all expectations at this point. Furthermore, Barbie won the ‘Barbenheimer’ race, with Oppenheimer ending up in second place. So far, Greta Gerwig’s film has dominated Christopher Nolan’s both domestically and internationally.

After his work in Fast & Furious, John Cena landed himself a role in Barbie by happy accident. The Peacemaker actor played the role of a merman, the love interest of Dua Lipa. Even though Dwayne Johnson dwarfs John Cena in Hollywood, the latter’s career is on an upward trajectory.

The WWE icon-turned-Hollywood actor has taken a shine to James Gunn, who has nothing but praise for Cena. Having said that, James Gunn has confirmed Peacemaker Season 2 on multiple occasions. Meanwhile, Dwayne Johnson is reportedly going to be featured in F&F’s spinoff centered around the rivalry between Luke Hobbs and Dante Reyes.
