The XFL has been The Rock’s dream project for a while. With the high possibility of being the mighty NFL’s future competitor, it has been a hot topic. XFL has gone through many revamps since its inception in 2001 by Vince McMahon. After racking up initial positive reactions from the fans, the Football League was forced to shut down after its first season. This was due to a sudden drop in ratings.

Returning again in 2020, the League was destined to the same fate as it succumbed to the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, it was forced to file for bankruptcy. The XFL rights were bought by a consortium led by former WWE superstar and actor Dwayne Johnson, along with business partner Dany Garcia, in August 2020.
