Dwayne Johnson has stuck to his position and confirmed his participation in the Great American Race, even though rain was expected to delay the event. Instead of happening on Sunday at 2:30 PM ET, the Daytona 500 was moved to Monday afternoon. Find out why Johnson is at the Daytona 500 and what he thinks of Daytona Beach.

Why Dwayne Johnson is at the Daytona 500?

The 66th Daytona 500, which was postponed from Sunday to Monday due to weather, will feature Dwayne Johnson as grand marshal. Johnson will be doing the honors of calling out, “Drivers, start your engines” before the race.

Johnson doesn’t have a lot of ties to NASCAR, but over the years, the Great American Race has had some huge names from all walks of life serve as grand marshals. Posting on his Instagram, Johnson said, “Happy happy Monday. Sun is out. I got the windows down, sun is out here in Daytona Beach baby. And of course one of my favorite place over there, Hooters. Man, I’m so pumped today. As you guys know we got rain out. In some wild way how the universe works. Like everything happens for a reason. So the sun is out.”

Further,  Johnson joked about wanting to participate in the race as more than just a grand marshall, making reference to a Roger Miller song. “I wish I was racing today, cause I can drive anything with wheels, man. I’m hell on wheels and as Roger Miller says I’m King of the Road. No I’m kidding. I get my a** kicked on that track by those drivers. I’m so pumped. Can’t wait for you guys to see it,” he said.

In the post, as you can hear, Johnson mentioned Hooters as his favorite place. Fans who don’t know, Hooters has more than 400 sites in more than 30 states. It serves bar-style food like wings, beer, and other snacks, and is famous for its waitresses’ revealing uniforms. The Rock said that the last time he tried to get into a NASCAR car; he got stuck, so he will probably be much more comfortable here while the pros drive

Moreover, stars like DJ Khaled and Pitbull were going to be at the event. They will no longer be able to show that they were at the race, though.
