AEW is ready to introduce its third show, Collision, on Saturday Nights. The upcoming show will mark the return of AEW’s controversial star, CM Punk. The Straight Edge star has been MIA since the infamous All Out backstage brawl incident. However, Punk’s return this Saturday could turn into a fiasco, as Roman Reigns is set to defend his World Title at a house show the same night.

AEW has been in constant war with WWE since its inception. In the past, WWE booking their live events on the same night as AEW PPVs has irked Tony Khan. While WWE is a wrestling juggernaut, its biggest rival in the market is AEW. Interestingly, WWE hasn’t had a sizable competition since the WCW days. But Tony Khan’s nascent wrestling company has given WWE a run for its money a few times. However, Roman Reigns’ world title defense could easily draw more viewers.

It was previously reported that AEW failed to move tickets despite advertising CM Punk’s comeback. And now things couldn’t get any worse for AEW in terms of ratings, as Roman Reigns is set to defend his coveted world title against Rey Mysterio on the same night. The United Center in Chicago will see the debut of Collision this Saturday. Meanwhile, WWE will organize its house show at the Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

It’s worth noting that Roman Reigns hasn’t put his WWE Undisputed Universal Championship on the line since WrestleMania 39. Roman Reigns only competed in tag team action at Night of Champions after defeating Cody Rhodes at the Grandest Stage. It will be interesting to see how WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio fares against the Bloodline leader come Saturday.

As for CM Punk, the former two-time AEW World Champion had lately been in the news for taking tours of wrestling shows. Punk’s fans were clamoring to see his return. However, even though his return is confirmed, it looks as though AEW will fail to even make a dent in going against WWE in the rating war.

Nevertheless, we will have to wait and see if Roman Reigns’ World Title match gets a louder response than CM Punk’s return. The occasion forges itself as an extra special affair as The Tribal Chief aims to achieve his first title defense after completing 1000 days as champion.

Roman Reigns has accomplished, in modern wrestling, something that was only achieved by a few wrestlers in the old era. The Tribal Chief has now joined the list of the longest-reigning world champions in WWE history. Bruno Sammartino, Bob Backlund, Hulk Hogan, Pedro Morales, and Roman Reigns are the only champions to have held the World Title for over 1000 days.

At this point, there’s no telling when Roman Reigns will drop his championship. However, it is highly unlikely for WWE have Roman Reigns’ title reign continue for another 1000 days. Bruno Sammartino and Bob Backlund were the only two legends to have been tenacious as World Champions for over 2000 days.
