Dwayne Johnson and his ex-wife, Danny Garcia, teamed up in 2020 to buy Vince McMahon’s failed business venture, the XFL. After its first season under Vince McMahon, the NFL-style football league went bankrupt. However, even under the new owners’ control, the XFL failed to show any signs of success, incurring a massive loss of an estimated $60 million after its first season since being acquired.
Despite the expensive setback, Johnson and Garcia are optimistic about its future. During a recent interview, Dany Garcia revealed how she approached Dwayne Johnson with the “crazy” idea of purchasing the XFL.

Dany Garcia is well-known for her shrewdness in business. Besides Dwayne Johnson, Garcia helped Henry Cavill achieve success when she served as his manager. Garcia has had the burning desire to own the XFL since Vince McMahon first introduced it in 2001. While speaking with Forbes, Garcia relayed how she spent time researching the ways she could resurrect the debt-ridden company.
According to her, she first expressed her desire to own the XFL to her agent. After doing her homework on the company, she devised a strategy to pitch it to Dwayne Johnson. She said, “I spent a period of time doing my research to say, ok what do we got? What’s the process? What’s the numbers? Does it look real? You know, sitting on it.”
The 54-year-old businesswoman went on to say that she saw potential in the XFL. In her mind, she knew what she could do with the company. So, after burning the midnight oil, she called Dwayne Johnson while he was busy and laid out the nuts and bolts of running the company. She added, “I knew what I could do with that property. I knew the brand architect, the storytelling, you know, managing the confluence of great play and fandom and 24/7 content, like, it has everything.” She continued, “So, I had to get that in my head and then call DJ. And I was like, ‘I know you might be busy’, I was like, But I have a crazy idea.
Although XFL is not yet a stable cash cow for Johnson and Garcia, they have innovative plans for the future. Johnson recently revealed atth “superpower” that would get more seasons out of the XFL.
That said, we will have to wait and see what the future holds for the XFL. While Dwayne Johnson’s XFL failed to succeed, his tequila company earned him millions.

Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia founded Teremana Tequila in addition to purchasing the XFL in 2020. The tequila company arose from a desire to provide people with a taste of the “spirit of the earth.” Amidst the pandemic, Johnson leveraged his massive social media presence to promote his brand.

He got the ball rolling by getting Applebee’s to sell his tequila to its customers as a tropical beverage in the summer of 2020. It was recently reported that Teremana Tequila celebrated a great feat, having sold one million cases annually.
Dwayne Johnson has a vision of taking his company international while continuing its local operations. All in all, Johnson and Garcia seem confident about their business ventures together.
