Damian Priest successfully defended his title against his opponent at Clash at the Castle this year despite suggestions that his rival could emerge victorious. The World Heavyweight Champion retained the title at the precious cost of his health. There was a botch during the match that not a lot of fans may have noticed. Reportedly, it caused Priest an injury that he had to tend to later.

Now, there are no official updates regarding the same, but Wrestling Observer has shed light on the subject. With Monday Night approaching, this update is crucial for fans to know whether the champion will be showing up or not.

There was a spot during his match against Drew McIntyre in which the latter was standing outside the ring and Priest ran at him from inside, trying to hit a splash by jumping from the ropes. The champion accidentally slipped, causing his leg to get stuck in the ropes as he fell upside down outside the ring, with his foot still entangled. This may have been where Damian Priest endured the injury because he was limping for the rest of the match and even during the post-even conference. Talking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said, “It’s not like, oh, you know, like, you know, he needs surgery. Can’t say that. We can’t say that he’s fine. We don’t, we don’t know, but I do know that as time went on from what I understand, it was, there was a hope, you know, kind of a hope that he’s okay.

While the immediate threat of Drew McIntyre might not loom over his head anymore for a while, there is a possibility that Priest would have to rely on his team to defend. CM Punk may also prove to be an unlikely ally to him.

At WrestleMania XL, CM Punk intervened after McIntyre won the WHC. This caused The Scottish Psychopath to lose the title as soon as he won it because Priest could cash his MITB briefcase at the moment. A few months later, in McIntyre’s home country, Punk showed up as a backup referee when the primary official was down. However, he messed around during the count, causing the wrestler to get mad.

This distracted Drew McIntyre, allowing Priest to pin him and retain the title. So, even though it looks like The Best in the World is doing the champion’s bidding, it is likely that he is merely messing around with McIntyre and might come after The Archer of Infamy as soon as both the wrestlers are healed completely. Stay tuned for more updates on Damian Priest’s injury.
