Drew McIntyre was last seen fighting inside the squared circle at WrestleMania 39. McIntyre lost the triple threat match for the Intercontinental Championship at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on April 2. The reigning title holder Gunther overcame challenges from him and Sheamus to secure the win. Since the bout, the 38-year-old is yet to make his comeback.

A few days ago, however, a rumor spread, predicting the Scottish wrestler’s return. It said McIntyre could make his long-awaited appearance. But there are also reports regarding disagreements over a new contract. Will McIntyre return? Let’s find out.

Hours ago, a tweet surfaced, which said that McIntyre could make his return at the Money In The Bank PLE in London. The mega event will take place on July 1 at The O2 Arena.

The tweet quoted PW Insider Elite as the source. Sadly, the company refuted the claims hours later and retracted the statement. “No one at PWInsider.com reported this, not in our Elite section, not anywhere.  Total lies. – Mike,” the tweet said.

Therefore, it’s not clear whether The Scottish Psychopath will return.

In short, McIntyre’s return to the ring hangs in the balance. Besides talk of injuries keeping the star from the squared circle, the two-time WWE Champion is currently amidst a disagreement about his WWE contract, which is also making his hiatus a talking point.

Is Drew McIntyre finishing up with the WWE?

The 38-year-old’s contract will end in early 2024. In that regard, he has a few more months to reach a common ground with the Stamford-based promotion and ink a fresh bond. But so far, the two parties haven’t been able to be on the same page.

In a situation like this, perhaps inevitably, McIntyre will bid goodbye to the promotion like many have before him. The notion also received strong backing from Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON).

According to the company, “Drew McIntyre right now is working with the idea there’s a good chance he’s finishing up in WWE, he could do a big program for the title and finally leave. He will be out of action for a few more weeks. Nothing has changed regarding his contract situation.”

There are also reports that before he goes, WWE is planning a heel turn for him. So even though he is on his way out, the creative team hasn’t given up on him. Now that’s something for McIntyre fans to cheer about.
