Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards (WON) is a deciding factor of what is trending among the current internet fanbase. This year’s award had already been declared, and the result is exactly what you might guess. With a bunch of AEW stars making it to the winning list, the CEO and president of the company stuck to his ‘Booker of the year ‘ title for the third consecutive year.

Tony khan received a congratulatory tweet from the official AEW Twitter account, for holding of the Best Booker’s place firm for the last three years, and also Promoter of the Year for the fourth year. This year WON awards were a huge shout-out to AEW stars as per voter’s choice.

Apart from the AEW boss himself, there are many more AEW talents winning the awards. To name a few, there is Jon Moxley as the wrestler of the year. Bryan Danielson dominated the technical part, clinching the Technical wrestler of the year award for him. MJF is named as most charismatic.

Fans reacted to Tony Khan’s winning Best Booker and Best Promoter of the year award

Compared to Triple H, fans think it is unfair to give this award to Tony Khan, considering AEW’s comparatively lower rating. AEW has been in an ongoing struggle with the bad rating of AEW Rampage and a few other issues. However, fans have their own perceptions and opinions, sometimes backed by facts and logic, while sometimes without it.

Overall, it seemed that Tony Khan, as best booker and promoter of the year, didn’t sit well with the fans. Some have problems with his storylines, while some are focusing on their deteriorating performance for the last six months. Some even think WON awards are nothing but a fanboy’s tribute to AEW.

Fans didn’t take the award seriously at all.

Some compared it to impact wrestling and labelled the latter as way better than AEW.

One of them thinks AEW fans majorly gave the votes, hence it barely makes any sense.

Some put their sarcastic streak on point, considering it an upcoming meme material.

However, Dave Meltzer also seemed to be on the fans’ side to some extent as he recently commented that he would choose Triple H over Tony Khan for the award if he would have had the sole authority over this. In the newsletter, the American journalist noted, ‘I usually don’t comment on this. And for the first six months of the year, you can make the argument. But WWE and AEW as businesses were in the same position, with one much larger but the clear-cut 1-2 in the world all year.’

With both WWE and AEW making progress in their respective capacity over the years, it’s safe to say that awards from a particular media house based on the voting can’t totally judge how good and bad both the promotions are. Regardless of what fans might have to say, both Triple H and Tony Khan had their fair share of efforts in the overall growth of professional wrestling. To decide ‘how much’ needs a thorough analysis, nevertheless.
