Hulk Hogan ruled WWE for nearly a decade in the 80s as the top babyface of the company. But in the following decade, he became the biggest heel anyone saw at the time in WCW as the ‘third mystery partner’ of NWO. Recently, Eric Bischoff shed light on which WWE superstar he could argue, might have filled the spot of Hogan in NWO.
WWE superstar who could’ve had the same success Hulk Hogan did in NWO
In the recent episode of the 83 Weeks podcast, Conrad Thompson asked Bischoff about whether the NWO could have achieved success with Bret Hart in the place of The Hulkster. The WWE Hall of Famer answered it would’ve worked for NWO.
Bischoff said, “Maybe because Bret had a depth to his …, Bret was able to bring kind of a darker, edgier character to the table. Would Bret have stepped out of his character enough? I don’t know. But I think that’s a good possibility. It’s an intriguing one for sure.”
He added, “Just visually just look at it. It’s a little bit like asking a movie, you know, yeah, you’re looking at a movie script. You okay, we got to have we need three guys and this is going to start going to be a buddy thing……So yeah, that could have worked. You know, maybe who knows?”
The former WCW announcer was hesitant about Hart taking his character to the level the NWO needed at the time but agreed on this possibility. He compared the NWO storyline with a movie and shared how a poster of the film would communicate with the fans.

Furthermore, the 67-year-old shared that Bret would look great on the NWO poster with Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. Nevertheless, the faction achieved tremendous success with NBA legend Dennis Rodman also being a part of it.
The unfortunate end of Bret Hart’s WCW career
After the infamous Montreal Screwjob, The Hitman left for WCW. He had already made the deal with Ted Turner’s company weeks before his last match in WWE.
However, when he arrived in WCW, Hart was the hottest star in the company. He won the WCW US title on four occasions and also the World Championship twice. Sadly, his wrestling career would come to an end after a match with Bill Goldberg.

He suffered a concussion after receiving a kick from Goldberg and, as a result, had to retire immediately. He returned to WWE TV in late 2009 and also had a few matches long after announcing his retirement in 2000.
