WrestleMania 40’s Night One is in the books, and what an event it proved to be, from start to finish. Rhea Ripley and Becky Lynch set the tone for the night, and the quality only kept getting better. The main event- Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins vs The Bloodline delivered in spades. However, the focus has quickly shifted to the developments on Night 2, thanks to CM Punk’s comments post-PPV.
Steve Austin’s return was teased after WrestleMania 40 Night One
As the Philly crowd departed Lincoln Financial Field, CM Punk and one-half of the brand new Raw Tag-Team Champions, The Miz, caught up with ESPN’s Jesse Tessitore. Punk, who almost wrestled in the main event of Night One, but had his dream ripped away by an arm injury, threw a huge hint about Cody Rhodes’ back-up for Night 2’s Bloodline Rules main event.

After defeating Cody Rhodes with the People’s Elbow (and a cracking whip with Mama Rhodes’ belt), The Rock sealed the American Nightmare’s fate. Even Michael Cole exclaimed, “Cody’s screwed”, as the Rock pinned the challenger for the WWE Universal Championship.
But while Michael Cole and millions of ‘Cody Crybabies’ would have reasons to be upset, CM Punk just provided them with a ray of sunshine. Speaking to Jesse Tessitore, the former AEW star revealed he spotted multiple Samoans backstage, possibly belonging to Roman and The Rock’s Bloodline. While interference from the likes of Solo Sikoa, Jey Uso, and even Jey Uso is likely, rumors of an even bigger return shook up the industry. Punk said, “Cody has a big crew. I’m not saying what you probably thought I’m saying, but Cody does have back-up.”
Highly speculative, but Jesse himself teased Stone Cold Steve Austin, possibly pulling up to WrestleMania 40. “Perhaps a glass shattering?”, quipped Tessitore, as the segment came to a close. Nevertheless, the pop for Austin, if he walks out during the main event, is bound to be legendary.
Other legends who could aid Cody Rhodes against Roman Reigns
While Steve Austin’s return would blow the proverbial ‘roof’ off of Lincoln Field, there are a fair few legends who could be a part of Cody Rhodes’ crew. One of the most highly speculated returns is the Royal Rumble winner’s brother, Goldust. The former WWE star is a part of AEW’s roster under Dustin Rhodes. His AEW alignment might cost him a WrestleMania moment. However, there are bigger names with a vendetta against the Tribal Chief.

Brock Lesnar, who hasn’t been spotted in WWE since the Vince McMahon lawsuit dropped, is one name heavily linked to Night 2’s main event. He has the storied history of opposing The Tribal Chief. His handshake with Rhodes at last year’s SummerSlam could indicate which side the Beast would fight on.

And finally, the most heavily linked legend to possibly cost Roman his 1314-day reign, his former nemesis John Cena. Cena has been teasing a return heavily on his Instagram, which is open to people’s interpretation. He also teased showing up at WrestleMania on Jimmy Fallon’s late-night show, which only makes the speculation more plausible. Who do you want to see return to help Cody beat Roman Reigns?
