Roman Reigns broke his hiatus to show up in WWE again at SmackDown Premiere. Upon his return, he started feuding with the blue brand’s current sensation LA Knight. Now, both of them are slated to face each other in a title bout at Crown Jewel ’23. So far, several WWE fans believe that Knight is going to get the best of Reigns and end his ‘reign of terror’.

However, if the decorated SmackDown star is able to land this victory, it would be a sad and disappointing end to Cody Rhodes‘ story arc that started slightly before WrestleMania 39. Let’s compare both possible scenarios and predict who is more likely to pin down Roman Reigns.

LA Knight’s possibility of dethroning Roman Reigns

The feud between The Tribal Chief and the megastar is a pretty new one. So, they haven’t had time to build up their moment. Despite the comparatively small buildup, fans are still hyped to see the match go down.

Since this is Reigns’ fifth title defense in 2023, he might already be exhausted, a stage of vulnerability that perhaps Knight can use to his advantage.

Besides the factor of fatigue, LA Knight has also pretty much been undefeated since mid-July this year. He has had a total of 19 singles matches. Out of these, he has only lost one, and in a dirty manner at that. So, if The Bloodline doesn’t come to rescue their leader, Knight might walk out of the arena with the Universal Championship on his shoulder.

WWE legend Booker T also believes that WWE should take their chances and make the 40-year-old win the championship. He believes so because LA Knight is currently the ‘hot’ thing in WWE. So, if the promotion bends the victory decision to his side, it could benefit them greatly.

The loophole in the storylines is that if Knight is able to defeat Reigns for his post as The Tribal Chief, the buildup that Cody Rhodes was supposed to have up until WrestleMania 40 will go to waste.

Should we still expect Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns in the future?

The last time we saw the two superstars feuding against each other was at WrestleMania 39. With the help of his cousins, Reigns was able to maintain his position in The Bloodline and as the Undisputed Universal Champion. The American Nightmare was the ‘big thing’ soon after his Royal Rumble return. So, this loss came as a shock to fans.

Seeing Rhodes’ loss at WrestleMania this year, Diamond Dallas Page confessed that he ‘almost cried’. Since he was also as shocked as the rest of the fans, knowing WWE as a promotion, DDP predicted that the Stamford-based company was trying to run a full-circle moment for the former AEW star. He believed Rhodes would pin Reigns at WrestleMania 40 to complete their story arc. But now, the probability of this happening is a bit hazy.

As far as we can see, Knight might have a fair shot at dethroning The Tribal Chief as the current leader of the Anoa’i family and the Undisputed Champion.
